GCU graduate wins Scottish Degree Student of the Year

Andrew Gray

A graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University has been named Scottish Degree Student of the Year at the British Education Awards.

Andrew Gray, who achieved first-class honours in Risk Management, was recognised for his outstanding academic, fund-raising and charity work during his time with GCU.

The BEA celebrate the course-related and extracurricular achievements of students across the UK.

Andrew, who received his award at a ceremony in Manchester, took part in student mentoring for GCU and, in his final year, founded a society for risk and finance students.

He was invited to attend the Risk Management Institute of Australasia’s conference in Canberra and received both the Lindsay Leadership Award and the GCU Common Good Award for his efforts on behalf of the Roy Castle Foundation.

Around 400 guests gathered for the awards ceremony, co-hosted by BBC presenter Kevin Fitzpatrick, and Professor Basma Ellahi, who is an expert in public health and nutrition from the University of Chester.

Dr Patrick Ring, of Glasgow School for Business and Society, said: "We are delighted to hear of Andrew's latest achievement, it's thoroughly deserved. The award further adds to the continuing success of GCU's risk management graduates."
